Don't believe everything you hear on the "news".
I am a bit higher up in Simi Valley and the mountains that were burning were a
LONG way away, but many people don't realize that and claim that it is in
Simi Valley because they can see flames. They don't realize how far away it
really is. I have see discussions on other groups where it was claimed to be
Simi Valley and based on what I see it is on the other side of the 126 with
respect to Simi Valley. People don't know how high the flames are and so they
think it is closer than it really is, especially at night when they don't see
which hills it actually is.
I heard some say that the fire was on the hills behind the landfill, which
strictly speaking is true, but not what they claimed since it was not the
hills they were speaking about, but instead mountains miles away.
The wind is also not blowing in the direction of Sim Valley with respect to
the Thomas fire. I don't see smoke from the Rye fire at all currently.
Previously it had been going west, north of Simi Valley.
Attached is a photo. I marked it with a red line which are in the hills of
Simi Valley. If you look at a map, you will see the mountains behind are a
long way away.
