Two 3+ quakes at Bárðarbunga

Following a 3.2 magnitude tremor just over a month ago, Iceland's Barðarbunga was hit by two 3+ quakes in the early hours of Sunday morning.

There are ever clearer signs – including seismic activity – that magma is building up underneath the Barðarbunga caldera, although this is not necessarily uncommon in recently erupted volcanoes.

The strongest of yesterday's quakes measured 3.5 and hit at 2:23 am. Four minutes later, a 3.1 tremor shook the area.

Bárðarbunga is one of Iceland's most powerful volcanoes and is located under the country's famous Vatnajökull glacier. It erupted for six months in 2014-15.
