Garland, TX Tornado Situation Report #2 (December 29th)

 

 

Highlights:  

·         Cleanup efforts have begun in the City of Garland's storm damaged areas.

·         Those who want to volunteer in the cleanup effort, donate goods and services, or if you are storm-damage victim and need assistance, please register at: garlandtx.recovers.org. There is a list of sites and the donations available on our Tornado Resources page.

·         Garland Police are reporting no reports of vandalism or looting in the storm-affected area. Police will continue to provide an increased presence in the area.

·         Garland Power and Light is reporting fewer than 1,000 customers without power.

·         Garland Police have identified the eight people who were killed in the tornado that occurred on Saturday night. Investigators determined that all of the victims were in vehicles at the time the tornado struck.

o   42-year-old Sharva Monique Sanders of Fort Worth

o   30-year-old Kimberly Lashorn Tippett of Garland

o   1-year-old Kamryn Demetrius Crain of Garland

o   32-year-old Lashondra Mildred Whitaker

o   77-year-old Cecil Warren Lowrie of Garland

o   27-year-old Petra Ruiz of Dallas

o   19-year-old Jose Oviedo Juarez

·         The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center National Disaster Relief Coordination Center has been activated. 

·         The State of Texas EOC is activated to Level III (Partial Activation).

·         TX US&R TF-1 (Type 1) / TF-2 (non FEMA US&R system) demobilized as of Dec 28.  

·         Six shelters are open w/167 (+71) occupants.

·         The FEMA Region V Watch Center is at Enhanced Watch (Day Shift).

·         The FEMA Region VI Response Coordination Center is activated to Level III (Day Shift). The FEMA Region VII Watch Center is at Enhanced Watch (Day Shift).

·         The FEMA Incident Support Base Team is deploying to Norman, OK and generators are staging in Norman, OK.
