[californiadisasters] LAFD Says, "Be Smart. Take Part. Prepare."

For Updated Information Please Refer to: http://lafd.blogspot.com/2014/04/lafd-says-be-smart-take-part-prepare.html

With a rare April Santa Ana wind event well underway in Southern California, creating Red Flag conditions, your Los Angeles Fire Department along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency remind you to prepare before a wildfire strikes your area:

  • Know your sources of information.
  • Prepare your home and workplace.
  • Develop an emergency communications plan.
  • Know what to do when a wildfire approaches.
For more detailed information, downloadHow to Prepare for a Wildfire, a hazard-specific guide, which provides information on the basics of each hazard, how to protect yourself and your property, and what steps to take now.

Fires, especially when wind driven, spread quickly igniting brush, trees, and homes. Residences that survive almost always do so because the homeowners were prepared. Before a wildfire strikes your area, be prepared to evacuate threatened areas on short notice.

Visit lafd.org/brush to ensure your property is in compliance with City regulations, learn how to properly reduce sources of fuel near your property, ensure it is well irrigated, and free of highly flammable vegetation. Don't forget to review your homeowners or renters insurance policy.
