UPDATE: Roofs, fences in west Roseville damaged by possible tornado
Twelve houses in west Roseville suffered damage when a possible tornado touched down this evening.
The National Weather Service will send teams out Thursday to determine whether the damage was caused by a tornado or high winds.
Division Chief Kathy Finney of the Roseville Fire Department said firefighters received the report at 6:43 p.m. She said 12 houses in the area of Pleasant Grove Boulevard and Monument Drive suffered roof damage. She said six also reported fence damage and two were pelted with debris, such as barbecues that damaged Sheetrock.
The good news: No one was injured and the no one was displaced from their homes as a result of the damage, Finney said.
The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for portions of Sacramento, Placer, Sutter, Glenn and Butte counties.
At 5:30 p.m., trained weather spotters reported a funnel cloud near Pleasant Grove, about 11 miles west of Roseville, moving east at 15 mph. The warning for northwestern Sacramento, County, southwestern Placer County and southeastern County was canceled shortly before 7 p.m.
A funnel cloud also was spotted at 5:03 p.m. west of Interstate 5, about 6 miles north of Willows, moving southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Significant amounts of hail also were reported at the time.
