[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Epidemiological History (December 23)

From the pages of the Redding Record-Searchlight:

1912:
The Greek dishwasher at the Baltimore restaurant was found to have smallpox.
He was given quarters in the city's new pesthouse, a tent at the rock crusher.
He stayed there for an hour or so and cut out through the brush northward toward Kennett.
The city's smallpox policeman took after him in an automobile but failed to get any sight of the runaway.
