[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Epidemiological History (December 19)



From the pages of the Redding Record-Searchlight:

1912: Redding was building a pesthouse at the rock crusher in the extreme western part of the city. Homeless smallpox patients would be quarantined and fed there.
It was really a tent house.
The pesttent is built on city ground and is far removed from any dwelling.
The meals for all victims would be sent by special delivery, just as prisoners in the county jail were served.
