[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (December 12)



2011: As many as five waterspouts were observed off La Jolla.
Three off Windandsea Beach, and possibly two others off La Jolla Shores.

1997:
Santa Ana winds that started on 12.10 and ended on this day gusted to 96 mph (unofficially) at Pine Valley and 87 mph at Upland.
Two were killed from flying debris.
Property damage occurred in Sun City.
Crop damage also occurred.
Boats were damaged and sunk at Coronado and Avalon harbors.

1987: Strong Santa Ana winds blew in San Bernardino with gusts to 60 mph.

1967: One of the strongest Mono Wind events on record hit during the evening hours.
Winds were estimated at over 70 mph in Millerton Lake and substantial damage occurred in the Bass Lake area totaling over $1 million in 1967 dollars.

1967: Heavy rain that began on this day ended on 12.15.
There were two drowning deaths in San Diego County.

1965: Hail up to 4" deep covered Pt. Loma.

1949: It was 20° in Riverside, the lowest temperature on record.
It was 25° in Santa Ana, the lowest temperature on record for December.

1937: High surf ripped out three piers from LA to Santa Barbara.

1937: Rain falling on mountain snowpack caused severe flooding in the Truckee, Carson, and Walker River basins.

1932:
The morning low temperature at Markleeville was -20°.

1932:
Hard freeze hits Valley.
Fresno set an all-time December record low of 18°.

1932: A frigid storm hit the region on this day and on 12.13.
These days were likely the coldest on record in Southern California.
On this day the high temperature in Palm Springs was 38°, the lowest maximum temperature on record.
